He’s smart. He’s adorable. He’s Dexter Morgan, America’s favorite serial killer, who spends his days solving crimes and his nights committing them. In season eight, Angel Batista was not always played by David Zayas. His son, David Zayas Jr., replaces his father in some scenes, as the two look remarkably similar. Visible throughout the first season, Dexter has a large scar on his left side. Later in season two, the scar migrated to his right side, leaving his left side without a mark. Dexter creates a believable and very detailed portrait of, shall we say, a disturbed sociopath. One of the parts of the series that I like the most are the emotions that normal people show, forcing Dexter to imitate them. Good laughs when the feelings Dexter pretends to have become real and he becomes afraid of dying, as in the relationship with his “girlfriend” Rita, mother of two children and victim of her abusive ex-boyfriend. I also liked Jennifer Carpenter’s performance as Dexter’s sister Debra, it adds a nice splash of color to the series without falling into cliches. Exciting story, lots of details and one of the best opening sequences ever.
